Report: Miami Dolphins bolster offensive line depth with latest offseason move

The Miami Dolphins added some depth to their offensive line on Thursday by reportedly signing veteran Dan Feeney to a one-year deal.

Feeney should compete for a spot in the interior of the Dolphins’ offensive line.

It’s a smart move by Miami to bring in another experienced offensive lineman, especially since the team saw Austin Jackson and Terron Armstead go down with injuries last season. Having proven offensive line depth should help the Dolphins keep Tua Tagovailoa protected in the 2023 campaign.

Feeney, who spent the 2022 season with the New York Jets, appeared in 17 games last season, making two starts. He spent the past two seasons with the Jets after beginning his career with the Los Angeles Chargers.

The 2023 season will be Feeney’s seventh in the NFL after he was selected by the Chargers in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He played his collegiate football at Indiana University.

For the Jets in the 2022 campaign, Feeney played 109 snaps on offense, picking up three penalties and allowing one sack. He had a Pro Football Focus grade of 51.8 for the 2022 season.

Feeney’s best season probably came in 2021 when he earned a 75.9 grade from Pro Football Focus. It was the highest grade he’s received so far in his NFL career.

While Feeney may not crack the starting lineup for Miami at the beginning of the season, he has made 64 starts in his career, so he has the experience to step into such a role if needed.

Robert Hunt, Liam, Eichenberg and Connor Williams are listed as the starters on Miami’s interior line on its depth chart at ESPN.

This has been a big offseason for the Dolphins, as they are looking to improve their roster as much as they can after making the playoffs in the 2022 season.

After Tagovailoa took a lot of hits in the 2022 campaign, Miami is making an investment in its offensive line to hopefully keep its young quarterback on the field for the entire season. He played in just 13 of the team’s 17 regular season games in the 2022 season.

Miami finished with a 9-8 record last season and lost to the Buffalo Bills in the first round of the playoffs.
