Report: Miami Dolphins agree to deal with Jeff Wilson to keep him around for multiple seasons

The Miami Dolphins have reportedly locked down another running back by signing Jeff Wilson to a new deal for the next two seasons.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Dolphins reportedly agreed to a new deal with Raheem Mostert, who led the team in rushing this past season.

Wilson was acquired from the San Francisco 49ers last year at the trade deadline. He ended up finishing second on the team in rushing with 392 yards and three touchdown runs.

In a Miami win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 10, Wilson had his best performance as a Dolphin by rushing for 119 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.

During Wilson’s time with the Dolphins this past season, the running back carried the ball 84 times and averaged 4.7 yards per carry. Between the Dolphins and 49ers, Wilson finished the campaign with 860 rushing yards, marking the most productive season of his five-year career.

With Mostert and Wilson both agreeing to deals with the Dolphins on Tuesday, the team’s running back room is in pretty good shape heading into the 2023 campaign. The team has been linked to some big-name running backs this offseason, but after Tuesday’s signings, it seems less likely that the Dolphins will end up pushing for a star player at the position.

Still, some other areas of the team’s roster could use improvements, and the Dolphins will surely look to address those holes as the offseason continues. They can add talent via free agency, trade and/or the draft.

It’s worth noting that the Dolphins did finish the 2022 season with the seventh-fewest rushing yards in the NFL at just 1,686 in total.

They managed to make the playoffs, but that was aided by the team’s potent passing attack. The running game will look to take a step forward in the upcoming season, and the group has the talent to do so. Mostert and Wilson will be among the most important players in order for the Dolphins to accomplish that goal.
