Given the way Tua Tagovailoa’s 2022 NFL season with the Miami Dolphins came to an end, there has been some speculation as to whether or not he will be back with the team next season.
Though everyone within the organization has been saying the right things in terms of the young passer’s future, there have been a lot of rumors regarding whether the team will try to replace Tagovailoa with a star quarterback this summer.
On top of that, there are also concerns regarding Tagovailoa’s health after he suffered two confirmed concussions in the regular season.
Now, sources close to the quarterback have reaffirmed that he will remain with the team in the upcoming season. Tagovailoa’s parents spoke on the matter and seem to have the utmost confidence that their son will remain in Miami.
If it weren’t for the health concerns, a vast majority of the Dolphins fan base would likely agree that the University of Alabama product has what it takes to be a franchise quarterback in the NFL.
When Tagovailoa was healthy in the 2022 season, the Dolphins offense looked like a well-oiled machine. Tagovailoa’s elite accuracy and timing blended perfectly with the styles of play of star receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
Tagovailoa, Hill and Waddle all had career years in 2022. The 24-year-old passer finished the regular season with 3,548 passing yards and 25 passing touchdowns.
Though those numbers are indeed impressive, it is also important to mention that availability is the best ability in the NFL, and Tagovailoa once again dealt with issues that kept him out of the lineup. After three seasons in the NFL, Tagovailoa has not yet managed to play in more than 13 games in a season.
This season, the injuries were arguably the most concerning because they dealt with his head. His two concussions were very scary to watch, and the team’s front office has to be worried about whether or not the injury issues will continue for the former first-round pick.
Hopefully, the young man can return to full health and never deal with concussion issues again in his career. However, if he does suffer further concussions somewhere down the line, it does seem possible that his NFL career could be cut short.
One has to imagine that the team will consider that possibility when determining whether or not to extend Tagovailoa past his rookie deal.
