Mike Gesicki offers big hint about future with heartfelt message to Miami Dolphins fans

The Miami Dolphins season came to an end in a playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills, and now some big decisions will have to be made. Mike Gesicki will be a free agent this offseason, and he’ll have to make a major decision regarding his future soon.

Gesicki was the team’s franchise tagged player in the 2022 season and completed a one-year deal worth $10.9 million. He will definitely be seeking a multiyear deal this offseason.

Gesicki is likely to get a number of offers this offseason, and he made it pretty clear that there’s a good chance he’s already played his last game with the Dolphins in a heartfelt social media post.

However, he did not rule a return to the team out, and he even went so far as to say that he would be happy to “stay in South Florida forever.”

Despite catching five touchdowns in the 2022 season, Gesicki’s targets and catches saw a major decline. He recorded just 52 targets and 32 catches for 362 yards. They were his lowest numbers since his rookie campaign.

In the previous three seasons, Gesicki had averaged 95.3 targets for 59.0 catches and 684.3 yards per season.

He’s proven the ability to be an effective pass-catching tight end in the NFL, and he seems determined to go wherever he will have the most opportunity to reach his full potential.

Though he could end up back with the Dolphins next season, chances of that don’t seem all that likely. First off, reports prior to the trade deadline indicated that the Dolphins were willing to listen to trade offers for Gesicki.

Beyond that, an episode of “Mic’d Up” caught Gesicki disparaging the Dolphins while speaking with Bills tight end Dawson Knox.

All in all, it seems like both sides are ready to move on. It’s a clear reminder that the NFL is definitely a business, especially during the offseason.

With Gesicki possibly heading elsewhere once free agency gets underway, it will be interesting to see if the Dolphins make a bid to try to acquire a new tight end of their own.

Other tight ends that are set to become free agents include Dalton Schultz, Evan Engram, Austin Hooper and many more.
