Report: Darrell Bevell rejects overtures from Jets and Commanders, plans to stay with Dolphins for now

A big part of the NFL offseason for any team is to try to retain talent not only on the roster, but also on the coaching staff. For the Miami Dolphins, it looks like they can rest a bit easier when it comes to retaining pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Darrell Bevell.

According to a recent report, Bevell recently declined interviews for offensive coordinator positions with the New York Jets and Washington Commanders. It appears that he’s committed, for now, to remaining with the Dolphins for the 2023 NFL season.

Of course, things happen quickly in the NFL, and it is still possible that Bevell could change his mind about staying in South Florida if a specific kind of opportunity arises.

Still, it is great to see that he is happy in Miami and wants to remain with the team.

Of course, Bevell was a key factor in helping to create one of the most impressive and efficient passing attacks in the NFL this regular season. With Tua Tagovailoa at the helm, the Dolphins moved the ball through the air with ease.

Tagovailoa finished with career numbers in basically all statistical categories, throwing for 3,548 yards and 25 scores and led the league in multiple categories.

Despite all of those fantastic accomplishments, the unfortunate reality is that there are still some serious question marks surrounding Tagovailoa. He is still recovering from his second confirmed concussion of the season.

While it has already been reported that he is expected to be the team’s starting passer in 2023, health will surely continue to be a major concern going forward.

Still, if he can stay healthy and Bevell remains with the team, the Dolphins are sure to have a really efficient and dangerous passing attack next season as well.

Bevell has had a long and fruitful career as a coach at the professional level. He started it with the Green Bay Packers working as an assistant quarterbacks coach. He then worked as an offensive coordinator with the Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks, Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars.

He even got to act as the Lions’ interim head coach during the 2020 season and Jags’ interim head coach in the 2021 campaign.

Though he may be happy with his role with the Dolphins now, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Bevell ultimately decides to see what he can do as a coordinator or head coach elsewhere in the league.
