Former Green Bay Packers star says team’s defensive backs will shut down Miami Dolphins wide receivers

Former Green Bay Packers star Donald Driver seems to be looking forward to his old team’s matchup against the Miami Dolphins this weekend.

Per usual, fans can expect the Dolphins to rely on their talented group of receivers to lead the way on offense. However, Driver seems confident that Green Bay will be able to shut down Miami’s receivers.

“Yeah, the defensive backs and the wide receivers for the Dolphins,” Driver said after being asked by Lily Zhao what matchup he’s looking forward to most in the Dolphins-Packers game. “I mean, they have a powerful offense, so it’ll be great to watch. I think our defensive backs go out there and [Jaire] Alexander goes out there and play the way they know how to play and shut those guys down.”

Perhaps Miami’s dynamic duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle will use Driver’s prediction as motivation to put on a show on Sunday.

Hill was just named to his seventh Pro Bowl as a result of his outstanding 2022 season so far. The 28-year-old has now been selected to the Pro Bowl in every season of his seven-year career.

This season, he has racked up 109 receptions for 1,529 yards and seven touchdowns.

Waddle, meanwhile, is coming off of a big performance in Week 15 in which he totaled three receptions for 114 yards and a touchdown. It was the type of showing he needed after he’d accumulated just 40 total receiving yards in his previous two games.

Overall this season, the youngster has brought in 62 passes for 1,117 yards and seven touchdowns.

This weekend’s Packers-Dolphins game is a big one for both teams. At 6-8, the Packers have virtually no margin for error remaining if they want to make the playoffs in the NFC. The 8-6 Dolphins, on the other hand, could really use a win to solidify their position in the AFC playoff picture.

Dolphins fans are certainly hoping to see a complete game from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa this weekend, as he’s had some ups and downs lately. The rising star was just snubbed from this season’s Pro Bowl despite leading the league in quarterback rating, so there’s a chance he’ll be very motivated to make a statement against the Packers.

After the matchup against Green Bay, Miami will only have two games left in the regular season: one against the New England Patriots on the road and one against the New York Jets at home.
