Struggling Jason Sanders admits he’s ‘not getting the job done,’ expresses confidence in himself

Though the Miami Dolphins have had little issue putting up points throughout the 2022 NFL season, kicker Jason Sanders hasn’t had the same level of success in the last couple of contests.

Sanders, who has missed two extra points and a 29-yard field goal try in the past two games, recently made it clear that he knows he has to improve his performance.

“Just not getting the job done really,” he said.

So far in the season, Sanders has missed four field goals (including the 29-yarder versus the Chicago Bears) and three extra points. Despite that, Sanders recently declared that he still has confidence in himself.

“Absolutely, because once you lose it, you’re deep in the hole,” he said.

He added that he doesn’t feel the need to see a sports psychologist because the issues that he has been dealing with over the last couple games are not mental ones.

“It’s not really a mental thing,” he said. “I’m hitting the ball well. I’ve just got to get the job done. End of story.”

Sanders, a one-time All-Pro selection, has been with the Dolphins for his entire NFL career. He was drafted with the No. 229 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Since then, he’s made 113 of his 137 field goals and 161 of his 167 extra points.

While the recent misses are somewhat concerning, it shouldn’t garner major concern just yet. After all, he made all five of his extra points against the Bears and both of his field goals against the Cleveland Browns.

Surely, the bye week for the Dolphins came at a nice time for Sanders. He’s gotten the chance to put those two middling weeks behind him and start out fresh with the rest of the 2022 season ahead of him.

The Dolphins will look to keep the momentum rolling following their bye. They’ll take on the Houston Texans on Sunday in a game that should result in a Dolphins win.

If they can get the win in that contest, they’ll enter the final stretch of regular season games with an impressive 8-3 record.

The Dolphins are looking to win the AFC East this season and earn some home-field advantage in the playoffs.

That would certainly help Sanders if he ends up having to make some big kicks once the playoffs get underway.
