Report: Dolphins cancelled practice with Eagles due to stomach bug, with multiple players vomiting overnight

The Miami Dolphins planned to take part in another joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday ahead of the two teams’ preseason finale on Saturday.

Unfortunately, practice on Thursday had to be cancelled after a stomach bug apparently started spreading within the Dolphins roster.

Luckily, it doesn’t seem all that serious, but it is better to be safe than sorry when it comes to spreading illnesses. Of course, all professional athletes have had to think about health a lot more over the last few years.

That is, of course, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. For nearly two years, the NFL practiced strong COVID-19 protocols to try to restrict the spread of the illness. While countless cases cropped up throughout the league in both the 2020 and 2021 NFL seasons, luckily very few players actually had to deal with serious symptoms.

Back in March 2022, the NFL announced that it had suspended COVID-19 protocols. That means that there is no longer required tracking or testing within the league.

“Based on current encouraging trends regarding the prevalence and severity of COVID-19, the evolving guidance from the CDC, changes to state law and the counsel of our respective experts, the NFL and NFLPA have agreed to suspend all aspects of the joint COVID-19 Protocols,” the league memo stated. “We will continue to prioritize the health and safety of players, coaches and staff, as we have throughout the pandemic.”

As for the bug that the Dolphins are currently dealing with, it will surely clear up in a matter of days. It will be something to keep an eye on in Saturday’s preseason game, however.

Despite the slight hiccup in their schedule this week, the Dolphins have to be feeling like all things are going according to plan thus far this preseason. Numerous players on both sides of the ball have impressed in practices and preseason games, and the roster is shaping up to be a good one.

On Wednesday, star wide receiver Tyreek Hill impressed once again when he put Eagles star corner Darius Slay on skates in a one-on-one drill. To make matters even more exciting, the player passing Hill the ball in the drill was Tua Tagovailoa.

It will be interesting to see if either player gets any snaps on Saturday for one final tune-up before the 2022 regular season begins.
