Mackensie Alexander says he had opportunities to sign with other teams but wanted to join Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins recently signed veteran cornerback Mackensie Alexander to help replace Trill Williams after he suffered a torn ACL.

Alexander, who went to high school in Florida and was born in the state, is excited to be back home and get a chance to play for the Dolphins. He revealed that he had other options to sign with NFL teams this offseason but wanted to end up with Miami.

“Alexander explained he had opportunities to sign with other teams this offseason, but he wanted to come to Miami,” the Sun Sentinel’s David Furones wrote.

‘“I like what they’re doing on defense here. It’s home for me,’ he said.”

Alexander, a second-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, has played for the Minnesota Vikings and the Cincinnati Bengals in his NFL career. Alexander spent the first four seasons of his career with Minnesota before heading to Cincy for the 2020 campaign.

He then returned to the Vikings for the 2021 season and appeared in 16 games, making five starts. Alexander recorded 51 combined tackles and one tackle for a loss in the 2021 season. He also had five passes defended.

The veteran seems like a nice depth piece for Miami, and he should be able to step up into a bigger role if called upon in the 2022 season.

In his NFL career, Alexander has appeared in 84 games and made 25 starts. He has three interceptions, 32 passes defended, 201 combined tackles and 4.5 sacks across his six professional seasons.

It’s awesome that Alexander wanted to end up in Miami, and it should give him some extra motivation to prove he made the right decision in the 2022 season.
