Here’s how Mike McDaniel helped an Atlanta Falcons WR not drop a single pass during the 2016 season

Mike McDaniel has quickly climbed up the coaching ranks in the NFL. He started out as a coaching intern in 2005 with the Denver Broncos and is now the head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

He’s held many different positions with many different teams over the years. Several years ago, McDaniel was an offensive assistant with the Atlanta Falcons.

The 39-year-old seemingly had a pretty big impact on the team. McDaniel recently revealed an interesting story to this year’s Dolphins squad about how he helped former wide receiver Aldrick Robinson during the 2016 season.

“In the offseason, McDaniel told a story to his new team,” wrote Dan Pompei of The Athletic. “When McDaniel was an offensive assistant with the Falcons in the spring of 2016, wide receiver Aldrick Robinson was dropping passes. But McDaniel didn’t see anything wrong with his hands. He asked Robinson if he thought he was seeing the ball well. Robinson said he was, but he decided to have his vision checked anyway. Robinson discovered he needed prescription lenses, so he got contacts. That season, he didn’t drop a pass.”

During the 2016 season, Robinson caught 20 passes for 323 yards and two touchdowns. He was never really a star throughout his playing career, but he had some nice seasons in the NFL.

It seems like McDaniel and Robinson have a pretty solid relationship, especially given the fact that Robinson is now an offensive assistant for the Dolphins.

Robinson is surely hoping that he can help Dolphins players the same way McDaniel helped him years ago.

Things are definitely different in South Florida now that the McDaniel era has begun. The Colorado native has seemingly breathed new life into the organization. Now, he’s hoping that he’ll be able to lead the team back to the playoffs.

Miami hasn’t made it to the postseason since the 2016 campaign despite coming close in each of the past two seasons.

McDaniel will need help from players like Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Xavien Howard and Jevon Holland if he wants to make it to the playoffs this season.
