Report: Miami Dolphins work out trio of centers with Michael Deiter still sidelined

The continuing absence of center Michael Deiter has led the Miami Dolphins to work out a trio of centers to fill that current hole.

It’s doubtful that any of the new arrivals will make much of an impact. However, the Dolphins’ signal-callers need reps to make sure that they’re as sharp as possible.

The 25-year-old Deiter suffered a foot injury last year, an issue that continues to plague him in the Dolphins’ training camp. Right now, the team is taking a patient approach to the recovery period in the hopes that he’ll be ready for the start of the regular season.

Dieter was a third-round pick of the Dolphins in 2019. He’s coming off a season in which he played in only eight of the team’s 17 contests in 2021 due to the foot injury.

As a rookie in 2019, Deiter started all but one of the Dolphins’ 16 games at left guard. He then served in a reserve capacity in 2020 before last year’s injury-shortened campaign.

From an overall perspective, the Dolphins need to see an improvement on the offensive line if they have any hopes of reaching the postseason.

Last year, the team allowed 40 sacks in 17 games after allowing only 34 in 16 matchups the previous year. In both of those campaigns, the Dolphins narrowly missed a berth in the playoffs.

Keeping Tua Tagovailoa upright will allow for him to take advantage of what could be one of the most dangerous receiving group in the NFL.

Second-year man Jaylen Waddle has been joined by blockbuster acquisition Tyreek Hill, with tight end Mike Gesicki also likely to offer major contributions along the way. That trio’s success is heavily dependent on the success up front.
