Emmanuel Ogbah says Miami Dolphins defense can be ‘scary’ this year: ‘You can keep sleeping on us’

Though the Miami Dolphins have finished both of the past two seasons with winning records, they have failed to get over the hump and advance to the playoffs.

Getting to the playoffs is clearly the goal for the Dolphins this season under new head coach Mike McDaniel.

The first-year head coach is known as more of an offensive mind than a defensive guru. Though that fact may concern some people, it apparently hasn’t impacted veteran Emmanuel Ogbah’s confidence.

In fact, he thinks Miami’s defense can be “scary” this season.

“The defense, for sure, can be scary this year because we all know each other,” Ogbah told Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network. “We all know what each other are capable of, our strengths and our weaknesses. We’re all going to help each other and compete with each other. It’s an exciting time for the defense. We’re excited.

“We’re looking good right now, but we’ve got to compete. You shouldn’t sleep, but we’re just going to do our job. You can keep sleeping on us, but we’re just going to keep handling our responsibilities.”

If Miami’s defense can keep pace with the way the unit has played in recent years while the offense perhaps takes a step forward, then the Dolphins should have what it takes to finally end the franchise’s playoff drought.

Last season, Ogbah had another great year with the Dolphins. He finished with 41 combined tackles, nine tackles for loss and nine sacks. He also had a career-high 12 passes defended. If Miami’s defense remains as solid as it has been in recent seasons, Ogbah will likely play a large role in that.

Dolphins fans will be able to catch a glimpse of their favorite team on the playing field in just under a month, as the team’s first preseason game is scheduled for Aug. 13.
