Former Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams issued a message to Dolphins fans about supporting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa entering the 2022 season.

Williams explained why Tagovailoa needs the belief of the fan base behind him to be successful in the coming season.

The first two seasons in Miami haven’t been perfect for Tagovailoa, but he has shown some promise that he can be the team’s franchise quarterback.

During the 2021 season, Tagovailoa appeared in 13 games for the Dolphins, making 12 starts. He threw for 2,653 yards and 16 touchdowns. The No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft also dealt with some injury issues in the 2021 campaign.

If he can stay healthy in 2022, Tagovailoa could lead the Dolphins to the playoffs after they finished over .500 in each of the last two seasons.

With improved weapons such as Tyreek Hill, Cedrick Wilson and Chase Edmonds at his disposal, Tagovailoa could be in line for his best season as a pro. The Dolphins also upgraded their offensive line in the offseason by signing tackle Terron Armstead.

Williams, who is a Dolphins legend, clearly wants the fans to give Tagovailoa the confidence to play better in 2022.

In two seasons in Miami, Tagovailoa has compiled a 13-8 record as a starter. He’s an extremely accurate passer, completing 67.8 percent of his throws last season. That is a positive sign for his future as a quarterback in the NFL.

Williams, who played with the Dolphins for seven seasons, was a Pro Bowler for the team in the 2002 season. For his career, he compiled 10,009 rushing yards and 66 rushing touchdowns.
