Tyreek Hill reveals he received death threats after his Tua Tagovailoa-Patrick Mahomes comments

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill revealed that he received death threats after saying that Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was a more accurate passer than Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Hill said on the second episode of his podcast that he received a ton of criticism from fans for the comments.

“On every social media account I own, I got death threats,” Hill said.

While Hill’s comments certainly brought up some debates surrounding Mahomes and Tagovailoa, it shouldn’t have warranted such a violent response from fans. Hill is clearly trying to support his young quarterback and give him confidence heading into the 2022 regular season.

“I just feel like a lot of people overreacted for no reason,” Hill said. “They really didn’t see what I said. A lot of people are just acting off emotion.”

Hill and the Chiefs were unable to come to terms on a long-term extension this offseason, and it led to the team trading him to the Dolphins. Last season, Hill caught 111 passes for 1,239 yards and nine touchdowns with the Chiefs.

The Dolphins wideout still gave Mahomes some praise during the episode, but he explained that his focus is to win a Super Bowl in Miami with Tagovailoa.

“We all know Patrick Mahomes is great,” Hill said. “We know that. But, right now, I’m going into a new season with a new quarterback who’s trying to head in the same direction as Patrick and do great things and lead this team to a Super Bowl championship — who is also great, in my opinion. He just doesn’t have the accolades — of yet. I believe in him.”

The Dolphins are hoping that Hill will allow Tagovailoa to take the next step in his career after they selected the quarterback with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Last season, Tagovailoa appeared in 13 games for the Dolphins, making 12 starts and throwing for 2,653 yards and 16 touchdowns. The University of Alabama product is one of the most accurate passers in the league and completed 67.8 percent of his passes in the 2021 season.
