Chase Edmonds says Tua Tagovailoa was put in ‘unfair situations’ over his first 2 NFL seasons

Miami Dolphins running back Chase Edmonds shared his thoughts on quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, saying that the Dolphins youngster was put in “unfair situations” in his first two seasons.

“I do believe that Tua Tagovailoa is the answer in Miami,” Edmonds said. “I think Tua gets a unfair judgment. I mean, that’s how it is when you play quarterback. I think he kind of was put in some unfair situations the last two years.

“I think Mike McDaniel is someone who is competent, someone who is going to have a good offensive scheme. We got weapons around him this year. It’s going to be a lot easier.

“I’m going to say that you’ll see the Alabama version of Tua that people remember. So, I think he was just put in unfair situations his first two years.”

Edmonds’ comments are a good sign for Dolphins fans, who are certainly hoping that Tagovailoa will make a major leap under McDaniel in the 2022 season.

The Dolphins really bolstered their offense this offseason by bringing in Edmonds, Sony Michel and Raheem Mostert at running back. More importantly, the Dolphins added an elite receiver in Tyreek Hill to help Tagovailoa push the ball downfield.

Tagovailoa was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and he has compiled a 13-8 record as a starter in two NFL seasons.

Edmonds may be right about Tagovailoa getting an “unfair judgment,” as the quarterback’s numbers weren’t that bad last season.

During the 2021 campaign, Tagovailoa appeared in 13 games for the Dolphins. He made 12 starts and threw for 2,653 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was one of the most accurate passers in the league and completed 67.8 percent of his passes.

The Dolphins have narrowly missed the playoffs in two straight seasons, but it seems Edmonds and company are ready to turn things around in the 2022 campaign.
