Sony Michel’s 1st words after signing deal with Miami Dolphins

On Tuesday, the Miami Dolphins announced that they had added to their deep running back stable by signing former first-round pick Sony Michel.

Michel, who enjoyed a solid year with the Los Angeles Rams last season en route to a Super Bowl win, now figures to challenge for an impact role with the Dolphins. He reportedly signed a one-year deal good for $2.1 million.

Shortly after signing his contract, Michel appeared on the Dolphins’ official Twitter page with a message for all the fans in South Florida.

“Hey guys, it’s Sony Michel checking in,” he said. “Just signed my contract, ready to get to work. Phins up.”

It’s been fantastic watching the Dolphins front office navigate the offseason so far. They’ve managed to re-sign important players already on the team, sign some impact players from other teams and complete one of the most newsworthy trades of the spring when they acquired Tyreek Hill.

Last season, Michel enjoyed something of a comeback year. After playing in just nine games in 2020, Michel managed to suit up for every regular season game for the Rams. He started seven of those contests.

In the regular season, he finished with a solid 208 carries for 845 yards and four touchdowns. He added 21 receptions for 128 yards and one touchdown.

With the Dolphins, he’ll surely look to improve upon those numbers and carve out a nice role for himself on the team.

As for the Dolphins, their front office will surely keep looking at veterans still available on the free-agent market to see if there is anyone left who could help improve the team heading into the 2022 regular season.
