Blake Ferguson recounts ‘crazy’ and ‘surreal’ moment he got drafted by Miami Dolphins

Miami Dolphins long snapper Blake Ferguson recounted what it felt like to be drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Ferguson, who played collegiately at Louisiana State University, was a sixth-round pick by the Dolphins back in 2020.

Ferguson explained his draft story, which took place with him being surrounded by family and friends at his home in Atlanta.

The draft can be a nervous time for a player, especially in the later rounds as the anticipation of getting drafted certainly heightens. Ferguson said that about four picks before he went to the Dolphins, one of his friends actually texted him asking about the team taking him with pick No. 185.

As crazy as it may seem, Ferguson explained that the only exact pick that he talked about that day happened to be the Dolphins’ selection. Dolphins general manager Chris Grier later called Ferguson during pick No. 183 to let him know that the team planned to select him in the sixth round.

“My phone was blowing up with my best friends just going crazy because my friend had kind of called the shot,” Ferguson said. “It was crazy, and it was surreal, but one of the greatest days of my life and one that I’ll never forget.”

Ferguson has appeared in 33 games for the Dolphins over the last two seasons, and he’s registered a fumble recovery as well five combined tackles.

He is a big reason why Miami has a solid special teams group with kicker Jason Sanders. Ferguson and the Dolphins will get to welcome a whole new draft class this offseason following the conclusion of the 2022 NFL Draft this weekend.
