Earlier this offseason, it was announced that the Miami Dolphins had signed punter Thomas Morstead.
Morstead seems to be very happy in Miami, and he recently took to social media to share a passionate message about how honored he is to wear the No. 4 uniform for the franchise.
He made sure to mention former Dolphins punter Reggie Roby, who helped open doors for Black kickers and punters in the NFL.
Roby became a fantastic punter in the NFL after entering the league in 1983. He was selected in the sixth round of the 1983 NFL Draft by the Dolphins.
By just his second season, Roby was already considered one of the best punters in the game. That season, he was named a Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro.
Sadly, he died back in 2005 at the young age of 43 due to heart problems.
While the three-time Pro Bowler is sadly gone, his memory surely lives on for many Dolphins fans. He is still considered one of the greatest players to ever play for the Dolphins.
As for Morstead, he has been named to one Pro Bowl throughout his career and won a Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints back in the 2009 season. Now, he’s looking to help Miami make some noise in the upcoming season.
Miami is hoping to crack the playoffs in the 2022 campaign after going 9-8 last season. It hasn’t made it to the postseason since the 2016 season, but with new head coach Mike McDaniel and some big offseason additions on the roster, expectations are now high in South Florida.
