Emmanuel Ogbah’s agent doesn’t expect the Miami Dolphins to franchise tag the DE

Drew Rosenhaus, the agent for Miami Dolphins defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah, doesn’t expect the organization to franchise tag the veteran.

“I’ve had discussions with the Dolphins, and the franchise tag hasn’t come up,” Rosenhaus said. “So, I think it’s safe to say that that’s not something that they’re planning on doing, and it sounds like the more realistic scenario is Emmanuel making it into free agency and us evaluating our options, including the Dolphins. But he’ll keep all of his options open, and if things work out with the Dolphins, I’m sure he’d be excited to continue his career here.”

The Dolphins have until Tuesday afternoon to decide whether to tag Ogbah or another player. In the case of Ogbah, the price for the Dolphins to tag him would be $20.1 million, which helps explain why they are seemingly more open to letting him become a free agent.

Ogbah has certainly made a big impact during his time with Miami. He has led the team in sacks in two straight seasons. In the 2021 season, Ogbah racked up nine sacks, 24 quarterback hits and nine tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

Given his impact, Ogbah’s potentially re-signing with the Dolphins would seem like a big move for the team’s playoff hopes for next season. However, if the team feels his price is too high, Miami may look for some less expensive options in free agency or the draft.

New Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is no doubt aware of how talented Ogbah is, but all things considered, it remains to be seen if the 28-year-old will play for Miami again.

NFL free agency kicks off on March 16, with the Dolphins and their fans eager to see some big splashes. Losing Ogbah would be a big development, which makes this situation one to watch in the weeks ahead.
