Report: Mike McDaniel set to have 2nd interview with Miami Dolphins on Thursday

The Miami Dolphins are getting deeper into the process of hiring their next head coach.

In a notable development, it sounds like Mike McDaniel will have a second interview with the Dolphins on Thursday.

McDaniel’s San Francisco 49ers were just dealt a devastating loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, ending San Francisco’s title hopes. While McDaniel is surely taking some time to get over the crushing defeat, he shouldn’t dwell on it too much. His future looks very bright.

Many folks are hoping to see the 38-year-old become the next head coach of the Dolphins organization. All signs point to that being a legitimate possibility, but how his interview goes on Thursday will likely play a large role in whether or not he lands the job.

McDaniel had a major hand in helping the 49ers have an impressive offense in the 2021 regular season. The unit averaged 375.7 yards per game, ranking seventh in the NFL.

The Dolphins could certainly use some help on the offensive side of the ball, so McDaniel would be a very interesting fit. Ultimately, only time will tell if he ends up getting the job, but it seems like he has put himself in a very solid position to do so.

After the surprise firing of Brian Flores, Miami is hoping that its next head coach will help lead the team back to the playoffs. Although the Dolphins have had two straight winning seasons, the team hasn’t reached the postseason since the 2016 campaign.
