Report: Tua Tagovailoa dealing with another injury ahead of matchup against Houston Texans

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was added to the team’s injury report on Wednesday with apparent problems to both his ribs and left finger.

The rib injury is an issue that came up earlier this year and relegated Tagovailoa to the injury report for three weeks. In the case of the finger, the concern is magnified since the second-year signal-caller is a southpaw.

Tagovailoa’s health has been a concern even before the team drafted him with the fifth overall selection of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Tagovailoa had undergone career-threatening hip surgery two years ago. Since entering the starting lineup last season as a rookie, his hip issues have lessened.

Not having Tagovailoa for Sunday’s game would deal a severe blow to the Dolphins’ chances of ending a frustrating seven-game losing streak.

For the 2021 season, Tagovailoa has completed 103 of 157 pass attempts, throwing for 1,040 yards. He’s thrown for seven touchdowns this year, but has already matched his interception total from last year with five picks.

The Texans will also enter the game with a 1-7 record, dropping all four of their road contests during the 2021 campaign.

Even though the Dolphins will be playing before their fans, that home-field advantage has been nonexistent, with losses in all four games at Hard Rock Stadium in 2021.

The statuses of DeVante Parker, Jerome Baker and Brandon Jones will also be closely watched since the Dolphins have no room for error. Given their woeful start, they have to immediately begin getting hot on the field in order to even entertain thoughts of a postseason berth.
