On Tuesday, former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III was involved in a car accident that claimed the life of a 23-year-old woman.

Tragically, the situation was entirely avoidable. Ruggs was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and was traveling 156 mph.

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who played alongside Ruggs at the University of Alabama, spoke out about the incident on Wednesday. Tagovailoa explained that he’s thinking of the affected families.

Clearly, there’s no excuse for Ruggs’ actions. His decision to drive while intoxicated cost one life and altered many others.’

The wide receiver was released by the Raiders in the aftermath of the incident. It seems like his NFL career is over.

Tagovailoa and Ruggs spent multiple seasons together at the collegiate level. They formed a nice duo and possibility elevated each other’s draft stock. Both players were first-round picks.

Ruggs probably won’t be catching passes anytime soon. Before being released by the Raiders, the 22-year-old had appeared in seven games this season and registered 24 receptions for 469 yards and two touchdowns.

This was Ruggs’ second season at the NFL level.

Tagovailoa is also in his second pro season. The youngster is hoping to impress the Dolphins over the final months of the campaign after the team opted not to trade for a different quarterback at the trade deadline.

Tagovailoa will lead the Dolphins into their upcoming matchup with the Houston Texans on Sunday. Miami is looking for its second win of the season.
