Former Miami Dolphins executive ranks Tua Tagovailoa as one of worst starting quarterbacks in NFL

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa might have just gotten some added motivation for the 2021 season.

Former Dolphins executive Mike Tannenbaum ranked Tagovailoa 30th on his list of NFL quarterbacks.

“Why was Miami Dolphins starter Tua Tagovailoa way down at No. 30?” Tannenbaum of ESPN wrote. “I need to see more. He made a really nice throw to DeVante Parker on the sideline to his right at one point, showing a glimpse of what he can do when he’s at his best. But his lack of mobility showed up on his interception, and I just don’t see a high ceiling for Tagovailoa.”

Tannenbaum’s rankings seem to heavily weigh players’ performances up to this point in this season, though it seems like the analyst also considers track record as a factor.

Tagovailoa’s position on Tannenbaum’s list likely comes as a surprise to a lot of Miami fans. The second-year quarterback had a solid showing against the New England Patriots last weekend.

The 23-year-old went 16-for-27 on passes, throwing for 202 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for a score. Above all, he led the Dolphins to a thrilling win over the Patriots to move to 1-0 on the season.

Tagovailoa will look to keep things rolling for Miami as the season continues. The team is hoping to grab a postseason bid for the first time in several years.
