Brian Flores declines to reveal whether or not Raekwon Davis will play again this season

Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores opted not to reveal whether or not Raekwon Davis will play again this season.

While Flores’ silence on the matter could be perceived as a bad sign, it’s possible that’s not the case. One Dolphins insider offered some insight into why Flores often chooses not to reveal players’ injury statuses.

“According to a source, Flores does not like revealing if a player is out for the year (even though he knows the answer) because he wants opponents later in the season guessing whether a player will be back and thus needing to spend time preparing for that player,” wrote Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

“Flores gave similar answers last season about whether Austin Jackson and Preston Williams would return from injured reserve and warned both players not to reveal it. One associate of one of those players who revealed something about his injury in a public forum was admonished by the team and told to delete his post.”

Davis hit the injured reserve list after he suffered a knee injury against the New England Patriots in Week 1. Due to IR rules, he’s guaranteed to miss at least three weeks.

The 2021 season is Davis’ second at the NFL level. In his rookie campaign in 2020, he racked up 40 tackles and one tackle for loss. He appeared in all 16 games.

If he were to miss the remainder of the 2021 season, it would be a major blow for Miami. No matter what happens, the team is going to have to move forward without him for at least a few weeks.
