Former Miami Dolphins first-round pick Ted Ginn Jr. recently announced his retirement.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James sent a congratulatory message, praising the wide receiver for enjoying a long career in the NFL.

Ginn was a standout football and track and field athlete during his high school years. He was then recruited by Ohio State University.

After an impressive collegiate career, Ginn entered the 2007 NFL Draft. Miami selected him with the No. 9 overall pick. That decision was criticized heavily by fans, analysts and more.

Though Ginn did enjoy some success as both a receiver and returner, he never did live up to the lofty draft pick with which the Dolphins selected him.

Ginn played Dolphins for just three seasons before getting traded to the San Francisco 49ers in the 2010 offseason.
