Report: Miami Dolphins could still consider trading for Deshaun Watson

According to a recent report, the Miami Dolphins have not ruled out the possibility of trading for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.

The report comes as a major surprise to anyone who thought that the Dolphins organization was completely committed to 23-year-old quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

“We’re told the Dolphins have enough lingering questions about Tua’s ability and future that they would still consider trading for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson if his legal situation is somehow resolved in time for the 2021 season,” wrote Adam H. Beasley of Pro Football Network.

“That, of course, is an enormous if.

“Watson stands accused of sexual misconduct by nearly two dozen massage therapists who are suing him.

“Watson is also under investigation by both the NFL and Houston police due to the allegations. There are so many moving parts here that even a settlement — which alone would be a Herculean task, considering the sheer number of plaintiffs — might not be enough for the league to green-light a trade.

“But that has not stopped the Dolphins from keeping an open mind, according to multiple sources briefed on the organization’s thinking.”

It was recently reported that the Watson era was slowly coming to an end for the Texans amid the numerous sexual assault allegations against the former first-round pick. However, with the 2021 season quickly approaching, a final decision has still not been made.

It is entirely possible that Watson will not take another snap in an NFL game, but if he does remain in the league despite the disturbing allegations, it will be interesting to see where he lands. In the 2020 season, he led the league with 4,823 passing yards and added 33 passing touchdowns.

Tagovailoa, on the other hand, had an underwhelming rookie campaign for Miami. He appeared in 10 games and completed 64.1 percent of his passes for 1,814 yards and 11 touchdowns. Many fans were quick to call him a bust.

A trade for Watson would make Tagovailoa’s future very uncertain.

The Dolphins narrowly missed the playoffs last year and are looking for a different outcome in the upcoming season.
