A new report indicates that prior to Deshaun Watson’s recent legal troubles, the Miami Dolphins were definitely set to make an effort to acquire the Houston Texans quarterback.
In recent weeks, Watson has been the subject of a flurry of sexual assault allegations. Unsurprisingly, the allegations have chilled the trade market for him.
While the Texans continue to state that they plan on keeping Watson, the disgruntled signal-caller seemingly remains upset over not being consulted in the team’s hiring of a new general manager and head coach.
The 25-year-old Watson is coming off a career year in which he threw for 4,823 yards, 33 touchdown passes and just seven interceptions.
If the Dolphins were to consider trading for Watson, it would require them to give up plenty of assets, including some of the high draft picks that they currently hold.
The Dolphins indicated shortly after the end of the 2020 season that Tua Tagovailoa was their quarterback of the future, though that statement came before trade talk about Watson emerged.
With Watson’s legal troubles likely ending any talk of a deal in the near future, Tagovailoa can now focus on getting the Dolphins back to the postseason and ignore the distractions of a possible deal.
