In the wake of the Miami Dolphins’ two blockbuster deals on Friday, former Dolphins offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil offered an amusing tribute to himself for being a key factor in his former team’s efforts to rebuild the franchise.
Tunsil was originally drafted by the Dolphins with the 13th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and was then the key piece of a huge deal with the Houston Texans in 2019.
That trade resulted in the Dolphins acquiring the Texans’ first-round picks in 2020 and 2021, along with a second-round selection this season.
Due to the Texans’ miserable 4-12 season in 2020, the Dolphins were the recipients of the third overall pick in this year’s draft, which they traded down on Friday to the San Francisco 49ers.
In return, the 49ers gave them their first-round pick (No. 12 overall) this year as well as first-round choices in 2022 and 2023.
A subsequent trade with the Eagles allowed the Dolphins to move back up six positions to the No. 6 overall pick in the draft. The Dolphins gave up their own first-round choice next year in the deal.
The Dolphins have already benefited greatly from the Tunsil deal.
What’s more exciting is that the Dolphins are swimming in high picks for the next few seasons.
Tunsil was only with the Dolphins for three seasons, but it’s likely that his impact on the franchise may extend far into the future if the Dolphins can capitalize on the draft assets they now possess.
