Report: Miami Dolphins to get rare opportunity to evaluate key draft prospects at upcoming Senior Bowl

The Miami Dolphins will be on the sidelines to coach one of the teams competing in the annual Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. on Jan. 31.

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald noted that the assignment will afford the Dolphins’ staff the chance to get a much closer look at some of the key prospects available in April’s NFL draft.

“The Miami Dolphins, who own a treasure trove of picks in April’s NFL Draft, assured themselves a first-hand look at dozens of college prospects when they agreed in recent days to coach one of the teams in the Senior Bowl,” Jackson wrote.

Ordinarily, the staffs of teams with the worst records in the previous NFL season would be serving in a coaching capacity for the game. However, many teams rejected the chance to coach at this year’s Senior Bowl for a number of reasons, which led to the Dolphins and Carolina Panthers accepting the roles.

Much like last season, the Dolphins will be busy during the early portion of the draft, with four picks among the first 50 choices. The two extra selections come from the Houston Texans as part of the Laremy Tunsil deal.

Due to the Texans’ miserable 4-12 season in 2020, the Dolphins will have the third overall pick as well as their own 18th overall selection.
