The Miami Dolphins plan to stick with Tua Tagovailoa as their quarterback next season, according to general manager Chris Grier.
However, Grier’s statement reportedly led to Chan Gailey’s resignation as Miami’s offensive coordinator on Wednesday.
Tagovailoa, the No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, didn’t have the rookie season many hoped for, but he was still successful. Miami was 6-3 when Tagovailoa started this season.
However, Gailey, who coached veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick when he was with the Buffalo Bills, seemingly didn’t want to develop Tagovailoa.
With Gailey’s resignation, the Dolphins will now have a new offensive coordinator for the third consecutive season.
Miami head coach Brian Flores will need to find a new leader for his team’s offense and preferably one that will help develop Tagovailoa.
Miami missed the playoffs this season despite going 10-6. The Dolphins were blown out by the Buffalo Bills in Week 17. The loss dashed their playoff hopes.
Now, with Tagovailoa as the quarterback of the future, Miami needs to find a way to get more out of him in his second season if it wants him to be the face of the franchise.
