Report: Miami Dolphins could be ‘tempted’ to bring Myles Gaskin off injured reserve

A new report indicates the Miami Dolphins may be tempted to activate running back Myles Gaskin off the team’s injured reserve list for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Adam H. Beasley, Armando Salguero and Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald noted that the continuing rehabilitation of fellow running back Salvon Ahmed from a shoulder injury could help the team make such a decision.

“With Ahmed on the mend, the Dolphins could be tempted to bring Myles Gaskin back off injured reserve this week. He practiced last week but remained on IR with a knee issue,” Beasley, Salguero and Jackson wrote.

“Before his injury, Gaskin was the Dolphins’ clear-cut No. 1 running back.

“Will that job be waiting for him upon his return?

“’I think it would depend on what he shows in practice,’ [Brian] Flores said. ‘When you’re out a few weeks, there’s a conditioning element, … a physical element. To think he can walk back in and he’s the same guy, normally it takes a few weeks until hopefully, he’s back to where he was. I hope a guy like Myles could get right back to form quickly, but I don’t think there’s any assumptions it’ll be that way. We have a number of backs. We normally rotate them. … It starts in practice. If we think he can take the majority of carries, maybe that will be the case.’”

Prior to Gaskin’s knee injury, the second-year back was the Dolphins’ leading rusher with 387 yards and two touchdowns. In addition to his running talents, he had also caught 30 passes for 198 yards.

The Dolphins are entering the final five games of the regular season and currently have a 7-4 record, putting them in the thick of playoff competition within the AFC.
