Miami Dolphins rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was seen wearing protective tape around his thumb and wrist during the team’s Wednesday practice.
Tagovailoa sat out the Dolphins’ victory on Sunday against the New York Jets due to a thumb injury he had sustained in last week’s practice.
Prior to that absence, he had compiled a 3-1 record as a starter after taking over for veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick, who replaced him for the Jets contest.
The fact that Tagovailoa is able to practice, albeit with protective gear on, is a hopeful sign that he’ll be ready to start Sunday’s home clash against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Given Tagovailoa’s status as the team’s quarterback of the future, the Dolphins are being especially cautious about the decision that they’ll end up making about his status.
