Miami Dolphins star wide receiver DeVante Parker wants rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to throw him more 50-50 balls.
Unfortunately for Parker, it looks like Tagovailoa will not play in Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.
The rookie was downgraded to doubtful on Saturday. Veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick will likely take his place.
Still, Parker explained what he wants to see from his new quarterback as they continue to work on their chemistry on the field.
“I think I’ve mentioned it to him once before, but I’m not really sure,” Parker said about requesting that Tagovailoa give him opportunities to come down with 50-50 balls. “I feel like if you just throw it up and give me a chance, I’m going to come down with it. Either me or I’m going to make sure he (the other team’s defender) doesn’t get it. That’s all I need is a chance; but we’re going to work on that.”
Tagovailoa is 3-1 as a starter this season. The Dolphins sit at 6-4, but they would be wise to get the ball into a playmaker like Parker’s hands as much as possible.
Parker is coming off a career year where he caught 72 passes for 1,202 yards and nine touchdowns.
In 10 games this season, Parker has caught just 44 passes for 523 yards and four scores.
As the Dolphins move forward, Tagovailoa and Parker’s chemistry together will be extremely important for the franchise.
