Miami Dolphins rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa offered some social media reflection regarding the first anniversary of his career-threatening hip injury.
Last year while playing at the University of Alabama, Tagovailoa was taken off the field during the Crimson Tide’s rout of Mississippi State after suffering that hip injury.
The issue was serious enough that there was some speculation that Tagovailoa’s football career was over or that he would miss the entire 2020 season.
When the Dolphins selected Tagovailoa, there was some concern about the rookie’s injury history and his ability to come back from the hip issue.
Yet, thanks to a rigorous rehabilitation and Tagovailoa’s immersion in learning the team’s offense, he’s beginning to thrive as the Dolphins starting quarterback.
In Sunday’s win over the Los Angeles Chargers, Tagovailoa was 15-of-25 for 169 yards, with two touchdowns giving him five for the season. Unlike many rookie signal-callers, Tagovailoa has yet to throw an interception in his 77 pass attempts.
Tagovailoa’s elevation to the starting job hasn’t slowed down the Dolphins, who now have a five-game winning streak and are 3-0 with the rookie at the helm.
The Dolphins will continue their playoff push with a road game on Sunday against the Denver Broncos.
