The Miami Dolphins have released running back Jordan Howard.
Howard’s release was a “mutual parting,” according to head coach Brian Flores.
Howard signed a two-year, $9.75 million deal with Miami this offseason, but he quickly fell down the depth chart.
Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed have emerged as solid options for Miami, so keeping the veteran Howard around seemed to be counterproductive.
Gaskin has been on injured reserve, but Howard’s release could be a sign that Gaskin is nearing a return.
This season, Howard appeared in five games for Miami, making three starts.
He carried the ball 28 times for just 33 yards, but he did have four touchdowns.
Miami is currently 6-3 on the season.
