Report: Dolphins Head Coach Brian Flores Announces Starting QB for Week 2

Despite struggles on the offensive side of the ball in Sunday’s opener, the Miami Dolphins have no plans to replace Ryan Fitzpatrick as the team’s starting quarterback.

Dolphins head coach Brian Flores announced the decision on Monday and indicated what he’s looking for from the team as a whole.

“It’s about consistency in this league,” Flores said. “We really need consistency on this team offensive, defensively, and in the kicking game.”

Fitzpatrick’s struggles no doubt had supporters of rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa hoping that a change would be made to see what the newcomer can do in his first season.

During the 21-11 loss to the New England Patriots, Fitzpatrick failed to throw for any touchdowns and ended the day with three interceptions.

After the game, Fitzpatrick tried to emphasize the positive aspects of the game, but made no attempt to acknowledge the lack of production on his part.

“Yeah, you can’t do that and win games in the National Football League,” Fitzpatrick said after the game. “Going against the Patriots, you’re going to have to take advantage of the possessions you get. And having a couple of turnovers there doesn’t help. But I thought up front we played well and I’ve got to play better for my part and we’ll move on to next week.”

However, the Dolphins have indicated in the past that they aren’t in a rush to install Tagovailoa in a starting role, especially due to the fact that he’s coming off a major hip injury.

The Dolphins will host the Buffalo Bills on Sunday in the team’s home opener at Hard Rock Stadium.
