Miami Dolphins News: Dolphins Sign 3rd Quarterback to Replace Josh Rosen

The Miami Dolphins have announced that reserve quarterback Jake Rudock will serve as the team’s third-string quarterback and placed him on the practice squad.

The Dolphins’ move comes one day after they announced that they were releasing former first-round selection Josh Rosen after having acquired him last year for two draft picks.

The Dolphins had first signed Rudock in January 2019 and kept him on the practice squad for the entire 2019 campaign.

This past January, the Dolphins re-signed Rudock to a futures contract, deals which are extended to players who are not officially on any NFL team’s 53-man roster.

Rudock had been a sixth-round draft pick of the Detroit Lions in 2016 after playing collegiately at both the University of Iowa and University of Michigan.

The only regular-season action that Rudock saw during his time with the Lions was during three appearances during the 2017 season. In those contests, he completed three of five passes for 24 yards and threw one interception.

The Dolphins are set to have Ryan Fitzpatrick starting when they start the season on Sept. 13 against New England. Rookie Tua Tagovailoa will serve as Fitzpatrick’s backup.
