Miami Dolphins Rumors: Tua Tagovailoa Could Start Season as 3rd-String Quarterback

Miami Dolphins rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is not expected to be the team’s Week 1 starter this season.

Veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick is expected to start out of the gate for Miami, but now it appears that Tagovailoa may not even be his direct backup.

Josh Rosen would most likely handle the backup duties if Tagovailoa were not named the second-string quarterback.

The Dolphins acquired Rosen last season from the Arizona Cardinals. The University of California, Los Angeles quarterback was a first-round pick back in 2018.

The Dolphins selected Tagovailoa with the No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The University of Alabama product has had his ups and downs throughout the first weeks of training camp.

However, he has reportedly been looking like a completely different player in the second week of the Dolphins’ padded practices.

Tagovailoa will have to beat out Rosen for the No. 2 job if he wants to make any starts in his rookie campaign.
