Here Are the Available Wide Receivers the Miami Dolphins Could Be Targeting After Latest Opt-Outs

The Miami Dolphins are all of a sudden quite thin at wide receiver.

Over the last two days, receivers Allen Hurns and Albert Wilson announced that they have decided to opt out of the upcoming season.

Now, with the exception of DeVante Parker, the Dolphins have few proven pass catchers.

As a result, it is quite likely that the Dolphins will look to the free agent heap to kick the tires on any receivers who still are without a team.

Adam H. Beasley and Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald took some time on Wednesday to break down the players that could end up getting a call from Miami.

“Among external options, the group of remaining free agent receivers with slot experience includes, among others, Tavon Austin, Jarius Wright, Taylor Gabriel, Jordan Matthews and Chris Hogan,” they wrote.

“Other available veteran receivers include Paul Richardson and Demaryius Thomas”

While all players mentioned have probably already played their best football, there’s no doubt that there is free agent talent available.

Thomas is certainly the most celebrated player in the group. He has 724 career receptions for 9,763 yards and 63 touchdowns. However, his last two seasons have left a lot to be desired.

He caught just 23 balls for 275 yards and two touchdowns in 2018 for the Houston Texans.

Last year, he caught 36 balls for 433 yards and one touchdown for the New York Jets.

Even with reduced production, he could potentially mimic the field-stretching capabilities of Hurns.

As for Wilson, two players who could replace his shiftiness and speed could be Jarius Wright and Tavon Austin.

With that in mind, it’s also quite possible that Dolphins trust the players already on their roster to fill the void.

Surely, their strategy to replace Hurns and Wilson will become more clear in the coming days.
