Back when he was a star at the University of Alabama, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa wore No. 13.
When he was drafted by the Miami Dolphins, it became immediately clear that he would have to change numbers due to the fact that Dan Marino’s No. 13 jersey is retired by the franchise.
However, that fact didn’t stop columnist Mike Bianchi from offering his take that Marino should voluntarily un-retire his number so that Tagovailoa can wear it as Miami’s quarterback of the future.
It wasn’t long before Dolphins fans took to the comments section of Bianchi’s tweet to eviscerate the writer for his ill-fated take.
Clearly, the people of Miami have very little interest in seeing Tagovailoa wear the No. 13 jersey no matter how much they love their shiny new quarterback.
In the end, the sentiment of many of the comments was fairly spot on in saying that Tagovailoa should get the chance to carve out his own legacy in Miami.
Hopefully, when Tagovailoa’s career is in the books, the Dolphins will be happy to retire whatever number he ends up wearing.
