Report: Miami Dolphins Interested in Both of Georgia’s Offensive Tackles

With plenty of draft picks to fill the holes in their lineup, the Miami Dolphins are reportedly showing strong interest in two University of Georgia tackles that will be available.

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald looked at possible tackles the Dolphins might consider selecting and indicated that the team is intrigued with both Andrew Thomas and Isaiah Wilson from Georgia.

“The Dolphins like both of Georgia’s offensive tackles — left tackle Andrew Thomas and right tackle Isaiah Wilson — and it would be quite a feat if they could come away with both, allowing Jesse Davis to move to right guard,” Jackson wrote.

Thomas is likely to be taken in the first half of the opening round of the NFL draft, which gets underway on Thursday night. Davis is likely to fall into the second or even third round, but is seen as having first-round potential.

Part of the reason that such a scenario is possible is that the Dolphins possess six draft picks in the first 70 selections. That includes three first-rounders and the fifth overall choice.

Bolstering the offensive line is a necessity for the Dolphins after that unit allowed 58 sacks in 2019, part of a 5-11 season that included an 0-7 start.

While the potential for Thomas to drop down exists, he likely will be gone before the Dolphins choose with the 18th overall selection. There has been plenty of speculation that the Dolphins will choose what they hope will be a franchise quarterback with that fifth overall pick.

One certainty is that the Dolphins need to avoid wasting all of the draft capital they currently have in their possession. Regardless of whether players come from the same school, how well they perform on the field will be the aspect that receives the most focus.
