Report: Detroit Lions Have ‘Made Plans’ for Draft Day Trade With Miami Dolphins or New York Giants

Draft day has finally arrived, and a new report indicates that the Detroit Lions are at least considering the possibility of trading their No. 3 overall pick to the Miami Dolphins.

“The Detroit Lions, who hold the No. 3 overall pick in Thursday’s NFL draft, have made plans to actually draft at either No. 4 or No. 5 overall, according to an NFL source familiar with the team’s thinking,” Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reported.

“The Lions have a degree of confidence they will be able to trade their pick to either the New York Giants or Miami Dolphins at some point either before the draft or while they’re on the clock.

“No deal is said to be finalized as of this writing. That’s perhaps because the Lions may be trying to pit the Giants and Dolphins against each other.”

Clearly, the Lions are ready to move their pick if they can find the right deal. The question is whether or not the Dolphins are willing to part ways with what the Lions seem to be expecting in return.

As the report indicates, the Lions expect to receive the Dolphins’ No. 5 pick in return for their No. 3 selection.

However, a Wednesday report indicated that the Dolphins were actually trying to retain their own No. 5 pick while also picking up the No. 3 pick.

While the Dolphins have two first-round picks later in the draft, both are out of the top 15.

Only time will tell if Miami will get its wish when it comes to picking twice within the first five picks of tonight’s main event.
