A new report indicates that the Miami Dolphins are one of a number of NFL teams that will be in virtual contact with Utah State University quarterback Jordan Love prior to the NFL draft.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that the Dolphins are one of six teams that will interview and assess Love through available technology, including FaceTime.
Those five other teams include the New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Chargers, Las Vegas Raiders and Indianapolis Colts.
Ordinarily, draft prospects like Love would be interviewed in a standard face-to-face format.
However, the continuing public health crisis connected to the coronavirus has forced all teams to take such alternative steps to gather more information.
Love’s size (6-foot-4) and arm strength serve as his chief selling points, though his play slipped somewhat last year following an outstanding 2018 sophomore season.
In that 2018 campaign, Love threw for 3,567 yards, 32 touchdown passes and just six interceptions. Last year, he threw for 3,402 yards, but dropped to 20 touchdown passes and saw an increase in interceptions with 17.
This year’s NFL draft has four quarterbacks that very likely could be chosen among the first 10 selections.
Louisiana State University’s Joe Burrow is expected to be chosen first overall, while Love, the University of Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa and Oregon University’s Justin Herbert all figure to be picked early.
The Dolphins have the fifth overall pick, but rumors have surfaced that they’d like to acquire the top overall pick held by the Cincinnati Bengals. Miami has multiple early picks, including three first-round selections.
