Miami Dolphins News: Dolphins Re-Sign Punter Matt Haack to $2.13M Deal

While the entire sports world is at a virtual standstill, the NFL offseason continues to churn along.

On Wednesday, the Miami Dolphins announced that punter Matt Haack would be returning for the upcoming season on a restricted free agent tender worth $2.13 million.

Haack has been with the Dolphins since 2017. Last season, Haack enjoyed yet another solid campaign, averaging a career-high 45.0 yards per punt.

More notably, Haack’s touchback percentage plummeted last season. His 2.9 percent touchback percentage was far lower than his career average of 5.44 percent.

Only five other punters in the league had a lower touchback percentage last season.

The Dolphins finished the 2019 season on an incredibly high note. After losing their first seven games, they managed to right the ship midseason and went on to win five of their last nine contests.

Clearly, the team’s front office is looking to build off of that strong second half of the season and bring back many of the players who played a role in the team’s success.

Haack is surely one such player, and he will undoubtedly look to continue to improve as a punter once his fourth season in the league begins.
