Mike McDaniel drops hint on Jaylen Wright after ‘small procedure’

Miami Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright suffered a leg injury in a joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars not too long ago. He is now on track to be sidelined for a period of time after he underwent a procedure to repair the injury.

However, according to Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, Wright could be back on the field for Miami at some point in September, and he won’t need to miss the entire 2025 campaign to recuperate.

Wright isn’t the only key running back on the Dolphins who’s dealing with an injury with the team’s Week 1 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts not far off. Fellow back De’Von Achane has been nursing a calf injury this month, though the expectation seems to be that he will be able to suit up in Miami’s outing versus the Colts.

Wright, who was a fourth-round pick back in the 2024 NFL Draft, didn’t exactly turn heads with his play as a rookie in the 2024 campaign. He ended up with 249 rushing yards and 11 first downs rushing across 15 games played.

However, the youngster said earlier this summer that he will be “way more involved” in “everything” as a second-year player with the Dolphins. Once he’s healthy, maybe he will prove to be right now that running back Raheem Mostert plays for the Las Vegas Raiders. Mostert logged 45 games played and 30 starts across three regular seasons with Miami.

For as underwhelming as Wright’s maiden season in the NFL was overall, he still had some impressive performances scattered throughout the campaign. Namely, he ran for a whopping 86 yards on 13 carries in the Dolphins’ victory over the New England Patriots back in October of 2024.

Here’s to hoping that Wright will enjoy a breakout sophomore season at the highest level and stake his claim as a vitally important part of the Dolphins’ offensive attack. Whether or not he will be able to enjoy a standout campaign could hinge on whether he is able to fully recuperate from his injury, and it will be worth tracking his recovery process.
