Miami Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright wasn’t highly involved in the team’s offensive attack as a rookie in the 2024 season.
He finished with just the third-most carries (68) and rushing yards (249) of any player for the Dolphins, and his usage rate took a major dip near the end of the campaign. He totaled just nine rushing attempts over his last five games played combined.
However, Wright said recently that he will be “way more involved” in “everything” with Miami as a second-year player in the coming 2025 season.

Wright, who was a fourth-round pick by the Dolphins in the 2024 NFL Draft, has a chance to redeem himself as a sophomore for what many considered to be a disappointing rookie season.
This offseason, Miami released one of the team’s more dependable running backs of the past several seasons in Raheem Mostert and let him join another squad, and his departure could open up more opportunities for Wright to show off his rushing skill set. However, with some newcomers also joining the fold in the backfield for the Dolphins, Wright will still have to prove himself.
Mostert, for his part, totaled 800-plus rushing yards for the Dolphins in two of the last three seasons, and he’s now a member of the Las Vegas Raiders organization. He agreed to join the Raiders on a one-year deal after he played for Miami dating back to the 2022 campaign.
Mostert had a down year in his last season as a Dolphin but still totaled the second-most rushing yards of any player on the team and seemingly cut into Wright’s opportunities to produce as a rookie.
The Dolphins are surely hoping that Wright can soon stake his claim with De’Von Achane as one of the more promising young running backs in all of football. Achane was easily Miami’s most effective rusher last season, as he totaled a team-high 907 rushing yards as well as six rushing touchdowns and 37 first downs rushing.
Here’s to hoping that Wright and Achane will form one of the more productive young duos at the running back position in the league this coming season.
