Jaylen Wright’s dad sends message ahead of RB’s 2nd NFL season

Because of all that went wrong for the Miami Dolphins on and off the field last season, the up-and-down play of young running back Jaylen Wright arguably was lost in all the noise. A fourth-round selection by the Dolphins in the 2024 NFL Draft, Wright ran for 249 yards and 11 first downs across 15 games played and one start in his rookie campaign.

Ahead of Wright’s sophomore campaign in the NFL with the Dolphins, his father Curtis took to X and made a post leaving no doubt that he’s excited to see his son on the field once again.

The younger Wright was one of four players from Miami’s 2024 draft class to play 14-plus games with the team last season along with linebacker Chop Robinson, offensive tackle Patrick Paul and wide receiver Malik Washington.

Easily the best game of the younger Wright’s pro career so far came near the beginning of last season against the New England Patriots on Oct. 6. He ran for a career-high 86 yards on 13 rushing attempts and averaged an impressive 6.6 yards per carry in that game. That was part of a three-game stretch in which he averaged 50.3 rushing yards per game.

Opportunities for the younger Wright to show off his rushing chops were inconsistent as his inaugural season in the league dragged on, however, and he saw his impact take a nosedive. In his final five appearances of the campaign combined, he had just nine rushing attempts.

All in all, the younger Wright seemingly is still very much a work in progress as a player, and his rookie campaign was seen as a disappointment in the eyes of many. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have what it takes to grow into a highly effective running back at the highest level, so his development will be something to monitor when the new season gets going.

The Dolphins have had some backfield turnover this offseason, and the 22-year-old will look to prove that he’s worthy of a solid role moving forward.
