Miami Dolphins insider believes team will ‘absolutely’ sign CB before camp: ‘They always do’

After fans of the Miami Dolphins waited for weeks for the end of the Jalen Ramsey saga, the Dolphins found the star cornerback a new NFL home.

Just days ago, Miami agreed to trade Ramsey, star tight end Jonnu Smith and a seventh-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a five-time Pro Bowler at the safety position in Minkah Fitzpatrick and a fifth-round pick.

The acquisition of Fitzpatrick will help Miami move forward after the team lost some safeties this offseason, but the Dolphins are in dire need of help at the cornerback position after moving on from one of the elite corners in the game.

Dolphins insider Omar Kelly believes the team will “absolutely” sign a cornerback before training camp kicks off for Miami.

The Dolphins’ depth chart at the cornerback spot looks pretty questionable at the moment. In particular, it’s replete with unproven players. Artie Burns and Kendall Sheffield are the only corners on the roster with at least five years of experience at the highest level, and Sheffield hasn’t started an NFL game since all the way back in the 2020 season.

Miami’s most talented player at the position now that Ramsey is a Steeler might just be Kader Kohou, who has played every one of his three seasons in the NFL with the Dolphins. Kohou started nine games (in 15 appearances) for the Dolphins in the 2024 season and totaled 45 combined tackles, two interceptions and eight passes defended in his third NFL campaign.

Asante Samuel Jr. is maybe a cornerback who the Dolphins could sign without breaking the bank, as an injury limited him to just four games played with the Los Angeles Chargers a season ago. He totaled six interceptions across his first three seasons in the NFL.

Samuel is not the elite talent that Ramsey is, but he would instantly be thrust into contention for Miami’s best player at the position, and his acquisition would make a lot of sense for the Dolphins on paper.
