In a matchup against the Houston Texans during the latter end of the 2024 season, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Grant DuBose went for a catch and subsequently sustained a hit to the head.
Not long after, the Dolphins placed him on injured reserve and ended his season. He played in just three of Miami’s 17 games last season and totaled 11 receiving yards and one first down receiving on two receptions.
Despite the fact that he suffered a scary head injury not that long ago, the expectation reportedly is that DuBose will be ready for the Dolphins’ offseason program.
“Meanwhile, DuBose said after the season that he’s fine after a brutal collision and serious concussion that left him motionless on the Houston Texans home turf for several minutes, before he was removed on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital,” Barry Jackson wrote.
“DuBose, who took a helmet-to-helmet hit from safety Calen Bullock in that Dec. 15 game, said he was induced into a coma as part of the recovery process. He said he expects to be fine for the offseason program.”
DuBose got his first taste of action in the NFL with the Dolphins last season. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft but didn’t suit up in a single contest with the team.
The Dolphins are hoping that they can tap into DuBose’s potential more in the 2025 season and that he’ll look more like the productive receiver he was at the collegiate level with the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In his second and final season with the 49ers in the 2022 season, he accumulated 792 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns.
But DuBose needs to stave off the injury bug in order to even have a real opportunity to show his mettle with the Dolphins moving forward. He missed a large portion of last season with a shoulder injury before he went down with his head injury against the Texans.
Even though injuries limited him in his first season as a Dolphin, hopefully he still learned plenty about what it takes to be an effective receiver from his teammates. Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are two of the better players at the position in the league and each totaled 700-plus receiving yards for Miami in the 2024 season.
After all of Dubose’s trials and tribulations he faced in the earlier stages of his Dolphins tenure, fans of the team should be rooting for him to have a career year with Miami next season. Maybe he’ll stake his claim as a great offensive player at the NFL level.
