Report: Grant DuBose expected to return home after 3-day hospital stay

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Grant DuBose sustained a hit to the head in the team’s loss to the Houston Texans on Dec. 15 and subsequently spent several days in the hospital. However, according to ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques, the expectation is that DuBose will return home from the Houston hospital on Wednesday.

“Miami Dolphins wide receiver Grant DuBose is expected to return home Wednesday, coach Mike McDaniel said, after spending the past three days in a Houston hospital,” Louis-Jacques wrote.

“DuBose was hospitalized after taking a hit to the head during Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans. Medical staff tended to him for roughly 11 minutes while he lay on the NRG Stadium turf, before strapping him to a stretcher and neck brace, and wheeling him to an ambulance.”

On Tuesday, the Dolphins decided to place DuBose on injured reserve and sign receiver Isaiah McKenzie as well as signal-caller Skylar Thompson to their practice squad. Miami’s decision regarding DuBose more or less ends his season in Miami.

He appeared in just three games for the Dolphins in the 2024 regular season and totaled 11 receiving yards on four targets and two receptions. His lone reception of the campaign that resulted in Miami gaining yardage came when he logged a 13-yard reception in a loss to the Buffalo Bills all the way back in September.

This season marked DuBose’s first in the NFL, though he was actually drafted in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Green Bay Packers selected him in the seventh round, but he never played a single regular-season contest with the team. He was released by Green Bay prior to the start of the season and was soon after picked up on waivers by the Dolphins.

The injury to DuBose has further depleted a Miami receiving corps that could be without Jaylen Waddle after he left the loss to Houston early with a knee injury. Waddle played just 26 snaps in Week 15.

Waddle has been one of the Dolphins’ top players at the position this season, considering he’s totaled 700 receiving yards, two receiving touchdowns and 36 first downs receiving so far in his fourth year in the NFL and with Miami.

Also, when the Dolphins took on the New York Jets a week prior to their loss to Houston, Waddle nearly finished with triple digits in receiving yards with 99 on nine receptions.

Only time will tell if Waddle will be able to suit up when the Dolphins play their next regular-season contest against the San Francisco 49ers on Dec. 22. If the Dolphins can pick up a win in that contest, they will improve their record to 7-8 on the season.
